​Annual Events

There  is  always something exciting going on in Sparta.Summer is packed with lake activities and it is a community that works hard and plays hard and strives to enrich childrens'lives each and every day.

4th of July

​Start off the day with a fun filled  colorful 4th of July Parade. Then head on down to Lake Mohawk to watch the talented and famed Sparta ski hawks water skying team - their acrobatics will wow you, enjoy food and music while we  celebrate our independence.

Turkey Trot

​Every Thanksgiving morning Spartans come out to raise funds in a 5 K run and fun walk.Adults and children alike enjoy this event and proceeds usually go to charities or families in need in Sparta,and after your 5 K walk you dont haveto feel guilty about that big Thanksgiving meal! Kroghs Pub is  one of the main sposors for this event​​

Memorial Day Parade

​​Sparta Kids excitedly line the streets for the Memorial day parade.Candy is thrown out from the floats and it's a fun day out for everyone.

Sparta Day

Now in it's 38th year, held in May and  organized by the Junior Womens Club of Sparta ( JWCS), Sparta day is eagerly awaited by the residents and visitors.Over 140 vendors and funplex for the kids along with fair food and an all around good time await those who attend.

Year round activites for kids are always available .Lacrosse, Town Football, Sparta Soccer club, Basketball,Baseball,Water sking and camp Sacagawea in Summer.

Sparta library regularly hosts special events, movie nights and activities for kids and adults alike.There is also a summer concert series in downtown.

The Sparta Recreation Department has many activities throughout the year for adults, older adults and kids.The Recreation Department is located on the lower level of the Sparta Library The Sussex County YMCA is easily accessible from Sparta town.

Winter Festival

​​Bringing every one out of hibernation is the Sparta Winter festival held in February .Enjoy hot chocolate, baked goods, vendors, music ,  carriage rides and bonfires ( when location and weater permits)

Sparta also has Station Park for kids and recreation  areas and Sparta Glen for birdwatching and wildlife/hiking .

The Parks and Recreation Department is located at the lower level of the Library building and has a wide variety of sports and activities for the kids, including summer camps ( Sacagawea), Basketball, Baseball, Soccer. Yoga , excersize and dance class for adults.

 

Movie theatre​​

​Sparta Movie theatre is located at 

25 Centre Street. Something new is always playing in one of three theatres.The pop corn is always good here ! After the movie , you can go bowling or eat at a few restaurants next door or take a leisurly walk to the lake for a summer ice cream.

 

Sparta Lanes - Bowling 

Always a good time at Sparta Bowling Lanes. Fully refurbished and a great place to get together fun , parties and office events.
